Frequently Asked Questions | Nu Flow

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1WHAT IS EPOXY PIPE COATING?
Epoxy pipe coating is a non-invasive process that uses epoxy to coat the inside walls of your existing pipes without destruction to your home or business. It provides a permanent barrier between your pipes and your water. This protective barrier eliminates corrosion and prevents future leaks. Additionally, it protects your water from lead and other contaminates that may leach from your pipes. Epoxy pipe coating is well recognized as a long-term solution to prevent corrosion and leaks, but is commonly used as a preventative tool to preserve the life of existing piping systems.
2HOW CAN I TELL IF THEIR IS A PROBLEM WITH MY PLUMBING?
Good indicators of a problem are poor water flow, hot or warm spots in your floors, radical temperature change when more than one water faucet is running, visual leaks or water stains, mold, knocking or pinging sounds coming from the pipes – to name a few.
3WHAT CAUSES MY PIPES TO LEAK?
Mandatory chemical additives to drinking water since the 1970s are causing pipe failure in piping systems in as little as 5 to 10 years of service. Chemical additives react in a hostile manner in metal pipes, and corrosion can also result from high oxygen or low pH in water. Higher water temperatures corrode piping more quickly while inferior plumbing techniques or poor piping design can cause erratic water flow patterns that accelerate spot corrosion and cause fractures and other problems. The corrosion and erosion of pipe walls result in pinhole leaks that, over time, will appear throughout the entire piping system. Undetected, slow leaks over time can cause catastrophic water damage and mold growth.
4IS THE NU FLOW PROCESS AND EPOXY SAFE?
YES - Nu Flow's potable water epoxy meets or exceeds all industry standards for safety and performance. We manufacture our own epoxies and ensure the highest level of quality. Our epoxy is UL certified safe to NSF/ANSI Standard 61. Extensive research and testing has confirmed that our epoxy is completely inert and has zero extractables.
5HOW LONG WILL THE EPOXY LAST?
The life expectancy of the epoxy is estimated to be 100 years and has withstood the test of time for more than 40 years in Japan, and nearly 25 years in the United States. Our epoxy coating process is a permanent solution.
6WHY SHOULD I RESTORE MY PIPES INSTEAD OF RE-PIPING THEM?
The additional costs and inconvenience associated with traditional re-piping are dramatic. Tearing into walls, floors, tile, and stucco is extremely invasive to your home. A lot of times, additional cost and accidental property damage adds to the headache of a re-pipe. Also, some “Re-pipe Specialist” will offer you huge discounts by using imported materials and employees that have little or no plumbing experience. Nu Flow uses certified plumbers with over a decade of experience.
7HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
A physical inspection is usually required in order to determine the number of plumbing fixtures and the layout/design of the piping system. Simply fill out our Request Form or Call (949) 373-7934 to schedule a FREE home inspection.
8WILL I SAVE MONEY USING NU FLOW?
YES - The Nu Flow process is the most cost effective solution. Owners will save thousands of dollars by coating the existing piping system compared to the outdated process of replacing the entire plumbing system. Our process requires no demolition which eliminates all reconstruction cost.
9DOES EPOXY PIPE COATING LAST LONGER THAN NEW PIPE?
YES - Metal pipes begin to deteriorate the moment they are put into service and water runs through them. Epoxy coated pipes cannot corrode and are resistant to deposits from water by-products, as these cannot adhere to the interior walls of epoxy-coated pipes.
10WHAT TYPES OF PIPES CAN NU FLOW RESTORE?
Any metal-based pipe and sprinkler system can be epoxy coated. We can restore, copper, steel, galvanized and lead. Epoxy coating not only restores the pipes, but leaves them in better than new condition.
11IF THE PIPES ARE OLD AND FRAGILE, CAN THE NU FLOW PROCESS RESTORE THEM?
YES - If the pipes handle your current water pressure, epoxy pipe coating will be successful. A Nu Flow specialist will perform a full on-site inspection to assess the condition of the piping system and advise you of the best method for restoring your pipes.
12IF A PINHOLE LEAK IS FOUND, CAN YOU FIX IT?
YES – If we find any pinhole leaks during our process, these spot repairs will be fixed free of charge.
13WHO HAS USED NU FLOW?
We do work directly for several new home builders and insurance companies across Southern California. Our main focus is on Residential homes. However, we have provided our solution to a large range of structures such as condos, apartment complexes, restaurants and hospitals.
14WILL MY CARPET AND FLOORING BE PROTECTED DURING THE PROCESS?
YES - All work areas will be covered and protected to ensure no damage to your home.
15IS THE NU FLOW PROCESS THE MOST ENVIORNMENTALLY SAFE ALTERNATIVE?
YES - Because the Nu Flow process restores instead of replaces piping systems, adding to landfills is not necessary. All products used meet or exceed required environmental, sanitary and safety standards.
16HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE MY HOME?
Typically it will take 2 to 3 days to epoxy coat a piping system in the average home. The average home is defined as 2.5 bathrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 laundry room, and 1 outside hose bib.
17HOW WILL I KNOW THE EPOXY HAS COATED ALL OF MY PIPES?
In the Nu Flow process, pipes are turned into a closed-end air loop system where continual air flow gradually blows the epoxy from the entrance to exit point. This ensures that every surface of the interior pipe walls is protected with epoxy.
18HOW WILL I KNOW THE EPOXY WILL NOT CLOG MY PIPES?
The closed-end air loop system (described above) will ensure even and thorough distribution of epoxy and not allow the epoxy to clog or build up. Continuous air is moving thru the system at all times.
19CAN THE NU FLOW PROCESS REPAIR MY SWIMMING POOL PIPES?
YES - As long as the pipes are metal-based.
